What is mediation?
Is it right for my situation?
Might it be a healing solution for my family?
Mediation is a voluntary process whereby a mediator (neutral third party) facilitates a meeting between the disputing parties. The mediator is there to guide the parties toward cooperative negotiation. Parties are empowered to create their own solutions.
Family members can discuss and resolve their issues in a safe and confidential environment. Unlike adversarial legal proceedings, mediation is not about winning and losing. Mediation is about exploring possible solutions with a spirit of cooperation, accommodation, and mutual respect. The other person's gain is not necessarily our loss - there is usually ample opportunity for mutual gain.
Mediation is a highly effective process for settling disputes - it's a viable alternative to expensive, prolonged, and destructive litigation.
Better Conflict Solutions can assist your family by mediating disputes involving but not limited to:
- Family business disputes
- Parent-teen issues
- Parenting plans
- Adoption issues
- Elder parent care
Conflict may be inevitable - but its damaging effects
can be minimized
